Port Harcourt, Nigeria \u2013 September 12, 2025<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 The\u00a0African Medical Centre of Excellence (AMCE)\u00a0reaffirmed its commitment to advancing cancer care in Nigeria and across Africa during the\u00a08th Annual Scientific Conference & Annual General Meeting of the Association of Radiation and Clinical Oncologists of Nigeria (ARCON), held in Port Harcourt from September 6 to 12, 2025.<\/p>

Delivering an address to a distinguished audience of clinical and radiation oncologists,\u00a0Dr. Aisha Umar, Chief Medical Officer at AMCE, highlighted the hospital\u2019s readiness to play a transformative role in strengthening Nigeria\u2019s oncology ecosystem.<\/p>

This year\u2019s ARCON theme,\u00a0\u201cInnovation Through Collaboration: Cultivating a Resilient Nigerian Oncology Ecosystem,\u201d\u00a0underscored the importance of joint efforts in addressing the rising cancer burden. Dr. Umar\u2019s remarks showcased AMCE\u2019s vision of collaboration as a driver of clinical excellence, research breakthroughs, and sustainable healthcare delivery.<\/p>

Dr. Umar emphasized AMCE\u2019s philosophy of working hand-in-hand with medical professionals across Nigeria, positioning the hospital as a\u00a0hub for innovation, research, and clinical partnerships.<\/p>

We want oncologists to see AMCE not just as a healthcare facility but as a platform for shared progress. By fostering collaboration, we can expand access to cutting-edge diagnostics, innovative therapies, and training opportunities that strengthen Nigeria\u2019s oncology capacity,\u201d Dr. Umar said.<\/p>

She noted that AMCE was designed with a holistic approach in mind \u2014 combining\u00a0clinical care, research, and education\u00a0to ensure long-term impact on patient outcomes and professional development.<\/p>

Dr. Umar also underlined AMCE\u2019s broader vision to serve as a\u00a0regional referral center, reducing reliance on outbound medical tourism and creating a destination for world-class treatment within Africa.<\/p>

\u201cOur ultimate goal is to provide care that meets and even surpasses global standards here in Nigeria. We are building confidence that patients do not have to travel abroad to receive the best oncology care available,\u201d she said.<\/p>
